3rd XI Win!

25 Apr 2023 by David Gill

Our 3rd XI, Taverners Team won an exciting first game of the season against Mexborough from South Yorkshire this weekend. The match went down to the last over as Meanwood set a target of 136 for the visitors. Jamie Hayter was the pick of the bunch in the batting lineup scoring an exciting 60 which included four sixes. The juniors continued to carry the day for Meanwood with Jamie, Bertie and Fred taking six of the oppositions wickets between them as Mexborough were bowled out for 128.

The Taverners are donating all funds raised at their games to Sunshine & Smiles who are part of the Leeds Down Syndrome Network. In this first fixture we raised £120.00 and at the end of the season we will collate all the 3rd XI receipts and present these to the LDSN.

Most of these games will be played away from Meanwood but it was a pleasure to be the first team to start the season at home and a special thank you to Captain Matt Cooney on his first victory and for making a fine tea. Moreover, Matt donated the cost of the teas to this worthy cause.

Thanks to everyone for a great day – next fixture, 14th May away at Farsley.
