Each year, Meanwood Cricket Club elect one person to the Hall of Fame. This recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Club either on or off the field. It is the highest award the Club can make.
2013 Inductee: Mick Dews
Mick was a long serving player at Meanwood, running 'up the hill' from the Myrtle end for many years. Instrumental in driving through youth from the junior team Mick was highly respected amongst the players, officials and by the opposition.
2014 Inductee: Pauline Dews
Pauline's contribution to the Club is almost impossible to measure. Not only serving in official capacities, Pauline was often found scoring and/or making the teas (famed malt loaf included), and generally being everyones cricket Mum . More than that she gave birth to Paul, who like his father, Mick bowled from the Myrtle end for many years. Pauline undertsood the game better than most of the team and was never happier than watching her 'men' play for Meanwood or heading for the Scarborough Festival. Now exiled in Wales, Pauline is always a welcome sight back at Meanwood.
2015 Inductee: Rob Guthrie
Rob joined the club as teenager and being a natural sportsman soon began to excel with both bat and ball. Arguably the Clubs most successful ever Captain, Rob saw the team rise through the leagues and take several accolades along the way. Rob also had a hand in developing the youth team and is regarded as one of Meanwood's greatest ever players. Now a rare sight on the field of play, Rob takes great pride in being Groundsman and puts in a huge amount of effort to keep the wicket and surrounds in the best possible condition.
2016 Inductee: Colin Murgatroyd
Former Club Chairman, Colin was once the scourge of many a batsman with a wicked spin ball in the style of Shane Warne (almost). Chief raconteur at the annual presentation evening, Colin has over the years devoted huge amounts of his spare time to ground work (and still does) as well as ensuring the Club moves forward and upward.
2017 Inductee: Ian Long
Joining from 'Civil Service' Ian devoted many years to Meanwood as a player and Captain. An excellent bowler, even in his final year was taking wickets right to the end with a 4-for in his last game at Kirk Hammerton.
2018 Inductee: Ian Senior
Former player and Captain, Ian sadly passed away in 2017. He had been a Meanwood legend, often carrying the team with stand-out batting and bowling performances whilst teaching the 'young-uns' a thing or two.
2019 Inductee: Peter Langley
Peter is the current President of the cricket club. His involvement with the cricket club dates back to the 1960's and has held almost every position on the cricket committee as well as captaining the side for a number of years. Peter has also spent considerable time and effort researching and collating the clubs history.
